Antarctica New Zealand does not gather information for any regulatory compliance, law enforcement, or protective security functions. We do gather some information for general compliance purposes, and to support individuals deploying through our programme to Antarctica, or for employment purposes, or for management of health and safety. Where this information is collected, it is done so in accordance with our internal policies and relevant legislation.

On this website, web-analytics are used to collect statistical information about user visits (such as clicks per page) data which is then used to improve the site’s effectiveness. User activity remains anonymous and is compiled statistically amongst all site visitors’ data so we can report on site usage.

The security of our premises is managed in accordance with our health and safety policy and in accordance with government procurement standards. The security of our information is managed in accordance with our Privacy Policy, Information and Records Management Policy, and IT Policies and in compliance with the Privacy Act 2020, the Official Information Act 1982 and the Public Records Act 2005. The information we hold is used only for the purpose for which it is collected or as otherwise advised, including as described in our privacy policy, or specific privacy statements on our portals.

Note, where we have serious concerns regarding potential threats to the physical security of staff, or the security of information or places, we will engage an appropriate authority such as the NZ Police.

Should we identify a need to gather information in scope of the model standards in future, we will ensure compliance with Information Gathering Model Standards, and update this transparency statement.
