Antarctica New Zealand is the Crown Entity that manages Scott Base, New Zealand's research station in Antarctica. We proudly ensure Antarctica and the Southern Ocean are valued, protected and understood. Our role is to support world-leading science and environmental protection, and share why it is important with New Zealanders. To do this, we have passionate teams based at Scott Base and in Christchurch.
Recruitment to fill Scott Base roles for the 2025/26 season is now open.
Scott Base is the hub of New Zealand's activities in Antarctica. Most roles are for the summer season from September to February, however each year a team of about 12 staff remain for winter spending a total of 13 months on ice. The recruitment process for Scott Base roles starts around February each year, for the upcoming season (deploying around September).
All other roles are based in Christchurch, which is one of only five Antarctic gateway cities in the world. This team plays a vital role in planning and supporting Scott Base to deliver a safe and successful season. These roles are advertised as and when they become available.
